Abstract

The Seventh Five-Year Plan (1985–1990) of India outlines a comprehensive strategy for economic and social development, emphasizing sustained growth, poverty reduction, and modernization. The Plan targets an average annual growth of 5%, with 4% in agriculture and 8% in industry, while promoting social justice and regional equity. Key priorities include enhancing agricultural productivity, extending the Green Revolution, expanding human resource development through education and health initiatives, and boosting infrastructure, particularly energy and transportation. Mineral resource management and sustainable exploitation are highlighted to ensure long-term economic stability. Fiscal policy reforms, including tax rationalization, expenditure control, and public sector efficiency, are recommended to maintain macroeconomic balance. Industrial modernization, export promotion, and environmental sustainability are integral components. The Plan aims to generate employment, increase domestic savings, and improve living standards, laying the foundation for equitable, inclusive, and self-reliant national development.
