Report on the Revision of the Retention Prices of Steel Produced by The Tata Iron and Steel Company Ltd. and The Indian Iron and Steel Company Ltd.

Abstract

The Tariff Commission Report examines the revision of steel retention prices for Tata Iron & Steel Company Ltd. (TISCO) and Indian Iron & Steel Company Ltd. (IISCO) for the period 1955-60 in response to rising production costs. The Commission recommended an average increase of Rs. 46 per ton for both companies, with specific adjustments to maintain contributions to their Development Funds. The report excludes certain cost elements, such as excise duties before May 16, 1957, and disallows unrelated claims. Key cost drivers identified include rising material prices, increased railway freight, and statutory levies. The report establishes a framework to support the operational sustainability of both companies while ensuring fiscal prudence and transparency, with findings communicated for official publication to inform all stakeholders.
