Abstract

The development activities in Mizoram suffered two serious Set backs during the last two decodes. The Mautam famine of 1959-60 caused serious damage to the fabric of economic development in the areas. When the area was recovering from the shock of the famine, the large scale disturbances broke out all over Mizoram in 1966. As a result all development activities not only practically came to a standstill but also undid whatever was achieved, For security reasons most of the outlying villages were grouped in Some selected places. The C.D. Blocks in the interior ceased functioning and the staff including the staff of the other departments were withdrawn either to the headquarters or placed at the Group Centers
