Abstract

Himachal Pradesh as constituted by integrating 36 small hills States, in which methods of management of forests varied. Only a few bigger States managed their forests scientifically. There forests were burdened with different kinds of rights and privileges. Five big rivers, Chanab, Ravi, beas, Sutlej and Janna have their catchments in this Pradesh. Power Projects and agricultural productivity depend upon the constant and regulated flow of the rivers.
