Abstract

The increasing availability of digital data has transformed the way governments design, implement, and monitor public policies. India's evolving data ecosystem, supported by initiatives such as the National Data Analytics Platform (NDAP), Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), PM Gati Shakti, and state-level data governance frameworks, highlights the growing role of data-driven decision-making in governance. The forum on “Leveraging State Data Ecosystems for State and District Level Policy and Planning,” organized by Suman Bery's NITI Aayog, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and the World Bank, emphasized the importance of robust data ecosystems for achieving the India@2047 vision.

Description

This study examines the growing importance of state data ecosystems in strengthening governance, improving public service delivery, and enabling evidence-based policy making in India. The rapid expansion of digital governance initiatives has generated vast amounts of administrative, survey, transactional, and geospatial data, creating unprecedented opportunities for informed decision-making at the state and district levels. The report Forum on Leveraging State Data Ecosystems for State and District Level Policy and Planning.pdf highlights how data-driven governance can support the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through improved planning, monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms. turn1search1
